17th July Tooting Folk Zoom singaround

Hi all!

Once again, this Friday 17th July we will indeed be hosting another Zoom singaround.

If you want to join, just download Zoom (if you haven’t already) and then click the link below:

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83484132829?pwd=a29KeWJKRG9CVHlGVzF4U250MnZ5QT09

When prompted, type this password: 333775

Meeting ID: 834 8413 2829

You’ll be placed in a ‘meeting room’ and then I’ll accept your entry to the Zoom meeting.

Trying to avoid gatecrashers – a problem we’ve had a couple times now – so if I don’t know you or someone else can’t vouch for you I might send a message to you before accepting you just to check.

We’ll be hosting the Zoom meeting from 7:30pm – send me a chat message in the application if you want to play/sing a song and I’ll sign you up. Music will kick off at 8pm, just like the normal events. We’ll finish sometime after 11pm.

Check you have “use Original Sound” activated on Zoom. If you have a decent microphone and/or camera, do use it!

Any questions, send a message on 07951163434.

Saturday 2nd November 2013 – ONE YEAR HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOOTING FOLK PARTY! Featuring Skiffle and The Piffles

Yes, we made it, in November we will have been running for one whole year!  It’s been a great year, and we are very lucky to have some fantastic regular floor spot performers who are a huge part of the night as well as lots of great guest acts.    To celebrate, we have the eight piece Skiffle and The Piffles as our guest act for the night, plus floor spots of course!

Skiffle piffle

Inspired by the rockabilly, folk and bluegrass of the 50s and 60s, 8 piece Skiffle and the Piffles formed in 2010.  Taking inspiration from the greats like the Carter Family and Wanda Jackson, they stir up a mix of girl group harmonies, stomping rhythms and finger pickin’riffs in their own unique style that is sure to have you singing along and dancing on tables.  Dusting off the washboard, accordion and box drum, expect a contemporary take on some old classics and many brand new tracks from their recent “Bones in the Ground” EP and beyond.

There will also be floor spots as usual, so come along and sing a song!  With or without an instrument, traditional or original.  Or read a poem.  Or do a dance.

Doors 7.30pm, music starts at 8pm. Come along at 7.30pm to put your name down for floor spots. Entry is £3, all the door money goes to the guest act.

Saturday 3rd August – featuring The Dry Bones Band

Playing a big old mix of folk, blues, gospel, ragtime and country, this London-based quartet employ open-backed banjo, mandolin, double bass, and resophonic guitar to perform their original material and a diverse selection of obscure American tunes. We should also add that the banjo player is none other than one of our favourite regular floor performers, Paul!

Saturday 6th July – featuring The Ballina Whalers

ballina whalers

The Ballina Whalers are Pete Truin, Jamie Doe and Sam Brookes – three musical barnacles clinging to the creaking hull of a musical tradition stretching back over hundreds of years. Using just their voices they explore ballads, shanties and seafaring songs that tell tales of whaling ships, lost loves, roaring storms and hardship out at sea.

“Stunning voices that blend so beautifully, a real knock out”
– Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2

There will also be floor spots, so come along and sing a song!  We’re really lucky to have a very high quality collection of regular performers who are as much part of the night as the guest act.
